RUN OCEAN – The Largest Maritime Sports Event in Reunion Island

Organized for the past two years by the West Nautical Base in partnership with the Reunion Island Regional Canoeing Committee, RUN OCEAN has become a flagship event in the local water sports scene.

International Recognition Driven by the Rise of Ocean Racing

As Ocean Racing continues to grow in popularity on Reunion Island, international governing bodies have acknowledged the island’s potential and designated RUN OCEAN as a leading maritime event.

This recognition is the result of several key strengths:

  •  Organizational expertise gained through hosting international competitions such as the Run Slalom
  • Strong local momentum around sea-based sports
  • Participation of Olympic athletes in the 2024 edition of RUN OCEAN
  • An exceptional body of water, offering ideal conditions for Ocean Racing

A Bold Vision: Becoming the Island’s Premier Maritime Event

RUN OCEAN’s ambition is clear: to become a maritime event as iconic as the Grand Raid, the Megavalanche, or the Brisants International Open in racket sports. It aims to showcase Reunion Island through sport, the sea, and shared values.

An Event by and for the People of Reunion

For its fourth edition, RUN OCEAN embraces inclusion and accessibility, placing Reunion Islanders at the heart of the event. A lively and welcoming event village will host over 1,000 visitors throughout the week — a unique opportunity to strengthen the connection between locals and the ocean, and to encourage renewed interest in nautical activities.

A Full Week of Action and Celebration

  • 5 races over 7 days
  • Live coverage on a giant screen and online streaming
  • Boat outings to follow the races from the water, dedicated to students and partners
  • An activity village with 7 nautical sports and 3 land-based activities
  • The presence of Olympic athletes to share their experiences and inspire new generations

On the Way to the World Championships

RUN OCEAN now sets its sights on hosting a World Championship in the coming years. With proven organizational experience, high-quality infrastructure, an exceptional natural setting, and strong community roots, Reunion Island has everything it takes to welcome a world-class sporting event.
